Every year the same tweak lists recirculate, and most entries have never touched a benchmark. We ran the popular ones on three reference rigs (RTX 4060, 4070 Ti, 4080-class) and ranked them by measured impact on average FPS and 1% lows. This is the honest tier list.
S-tier: measurable on every rig
These moved frames or latency on all three machines, every run: a proper FPS cap with Reflex, debloating background services, the Ultimate Performance power plan, and GPU undervolting for sustained clocks. If you do nothing else, do these four.
- FPS cap + Reflex — biggest feel improvement per minute spent
- Service debloat — up to +9% avg FPS on bloated installs
- Power plan — stops idle-clock stutter on entry CPUs
- GPU undervolt — +3-7% sustained clocks after heat-soak
A-tier: real, but situational
Timer resolution locking (big on some titles, flat on others), core parking control (matters on hybrid Intel chips), shader-cache resizing (fixes hitching, not average FPS), and QoS network prioritisation (only matters on shared connections — where it matters a lot).
F-tier: the myths
'Gaming mode' registry hacks recycled since Windows 7, RAM-cleaner utilities that force page-outs and cause hitches, disabling every Windows service indiscriminately (hello broken audio), and CS-style launch options pasted into engines that ignore them. We measured zero or negative impact from all of these.
- RAM cleaners — actively harmful, caused hitching in test
- Blanket service disabling — broke more than it gained
- Copy-pasted launch options — placebo in 2026 engines
The honest conclusion
About a dozen tweaks are worth your time, and they're worth doing precisely and reversibly. That's the entire thesis behind our packs: the S-tier and A-tier list above, applied correctly per rig, with one-click revert. Start with the free pack and see the method before spending a dollar.
- ✓Four tweaks deliver most of the gains
- ✓Situational tweaks need per-rig judgement
- ✓RAM cleaners and registry myths waste your time
- ✓Reversibility matters more than tweak count
